Fighting big dudes and then wandering around bleak, empty landscapes trying to find the next big dude. The worst part is there are a few that don’t really fight back, like it’s obvious that they aren’t violent and the mournful cries when they die is gut wrenching, says Asia. Yeah, I would get too depressed if I played it, I say. They just exist, you know? And you’re slaying them to resurrect your girlfriend or whatever, I say. Yeah, the game goes on you like “wait a minute, is this really the right thing to do?” says Asia. Another aspect of the game is the weird wonky controls but it adds to the game. Like the horse isn’t 100% in your control – they wanted it to act like a real horse and controlling the character is as much like you are a tiny man hanging on for dear life as you can get with a controller, says Asia. A game I immediately think of where the wonky controls enhance the experience is the Silent Hill series, like Silent Hill 2 where you’re just a regular dude, I say. You don’t know how to handle guns. Regular people are good sometimes. I have a love-hate relationship with the Silent Hill games, says Asia. I love how they use the environment for scares and not just jump scares: it really messes with you. I HATE all the stupid ass tedious puzzles. I was playing the second Silent Hill game and there was this long drawn out puzzle with lock boxes with keys and number combinations and I finally opened the goddamn box and thee was A PIECE OF HAIR IN IT. I did all that for a piece of hair. I never touched the game again. I was so mad, says Asia.

When I model ocean and only ocean, I maneuver both directions at once. I model only ocean multidirectional, and in this direction, I experiment freer and freer anarchic clusters, and in the other direction, I sharpen the structure and narrative as a more compact yet solidified structure. I try to distinguish more distinctly the difference between the anarchic word quilt and the sculpted narratives: for the quilt to loosen and free its funk constellation and for the mythopoetic narrative to reform it anew as a kind of alchemical process. I model only ocean both directions at once and modal multidirectional.

I feel I want to move into a sort of magical or incantation writing, I say to Asia. A writing that conjures spells, you know? A liturgy and ritual writing. But I’m still working it out. Here’s some experiments:

It’s almost musical, says Asia. Yeah, that’s the intention, I say. The intersection of music and ritual and liturgy and magic language. I’m still working on how to make it consistently and to work it with my other techniques of narrative and anarchic word quilts, I say. I see assonance and repetition which is good, says Asia. I think you should play around with hard and soft syllables, she says. Will do, I say. I want to figure out the repetition. I want to work with repetition more. Too much repetition just makes noise, says Asia. So be careful that your repetition is emphasizing and not just taking all the space, she says.

I eat ocean. I eat ocean rather than drink ocean because ocean sways overture. One eats an overture rather than drinks an overture because it devours orchestration. I eat the ocean overture and its music saturates landscapes. I eat ocean and desert, and both landscapes sing music. I translate the ocean melody into the desert melody and the desert melody into the ocean melody. The desert too echoes overture: overture of scrolls and dunes, and I eat the dunes. I eat undecidable dunes, and the scrolls taste sweet as honey in my mouth but sours bitter in my stomach. I eat the ocean and it unfurls as a desert scroll.
