Bonus points if its a drastically different tone… It can still be poetic but drastically reduce the alliteration and have long complicated sentences in that section. That will help break it up, make the reader slow down and give you a chance to emphasize the theme you’ve been building on. Let the piece be a solid anchor that secures the rest, she says.

I have to write because I’m a prophet, I say. And yes, that is crazy. I am a crazy man. Crazy doesn't have to be a bad thing, says Asia. When I write I feel something beyond me, which I guess a Christian would call the Holy Spirit, and it writes for me. I question it a lot though, I say. I mean, you’re probably the least crazy person I have met who calls themselves a prophet, says Asia. But it’s also a red flag to me when someone introduces themselves as a prophet just because of the kind of people I have met before, she says.

I don’t know if you could tell but I think you would consider me a prolific writer, wouldn’t you say? I say to Asia. My process has become very efficient. How I write and the meticulous nature of coping and editing from notebook to notebook and assembling it all together and then typing and editing it… It’s so efficient I often don’t remember a lot of what I write sometimes. Like those lines you love, I would have to look back and see the context. I understand they are lines I wrote because they are ben sounding lines but sometimes the process is a blur because I produce so much. Now that can be a positive. Perhaps I have mastered the flow / trance / mystical state of writing. But I think some people would see it as a negative. Like being a machine. I don’t think being a machine is negative either though, I say. I don’t think the idea in itself is bad or negative, says Asia. I just know you have a tendency towards self-sabotage and wanting to hurt yourself so I’m worried that you will use the idea of being a writing machine as an excuse to ignore your needs and punish yourself. Just promise me that you will remember the human piloting the machine, says Asia. Think of it like driving a car. When you drive it, the car becomes an extension of yourself, you and the machine are one, you are part of it and it is part of you. But you are still a human piloting a machine and you need good mental fortitude and health to pilot it well, if that makes sense, she says. Yeah, it does, I say. I think I’m still prophesying but in a different way now, from a different source. I think so too, says Asia.

I also think you tend to bring up these juicy personal emotions and then quickly drop them without fully engaging in them in the piece… I don’t think you should go back to fully doing first person. I personally think pronouns should jump scare people when they are reading poetry, says Asia. I agree, I say. I want an eclectic and flexible approach, a pragmatic approach. There’s a quote from philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein that’s been inspiring me: there’s not a single philosophical method, though there are indeed methods, different therapies, as it were…
